The Center for Health Transformation held its quarterly member meeting, Creating a Healthy Workforce & Community: Delivering IT to Transform Health and Healthcare, June 16, 2008 at the Microsoft campus in Redmond, Washington.
After morning tours of Microsoft’s innovative home and office spaces of the future, Center members gathered for a day of panelist presentations and discussions on the importance of health information technology in creating a 21st Century Intelligent Health System. The day commenced with remarks from Nancy Desmond, CEO for the Center for Health Transformation; Newt Gingrich, Former Speaker of the House and Center Founder; and, Peter Neupert, Corporate Vice President of the Health Solutions Group, Microsoft.
United States Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. of Texas, who is also Senior Health Care Advisor to the presidential campaign of John McCain, gave the keynote luncheon address and discussed the current legislative agenda surrounding health information technology on Capitol Hill.
In addition, Center members participated in panelist discussion on the topics of, Playing Catch-Up: Bringing Healthcare Consumers into the 21st Century Through IT; Improving Care & Clinical Processes with IT; and, Community Connectivity: Local and Regional Efforts to Build a 21st Century Intelligent Health System.
After a day of important dialogue surrounding the adoption of HIT, the meeting concluded with final remarks from its Founder Newt Gingrich who thanked all members for their participation and encouraged them to continue serving as transformational leaders in today’s healthcare system.
