Electronic Epidemiology

Date: July 24, 2007 Location: Washington, DC

On Tuesday, July 24, 2007, in Washington DC, the Center for Health Transformation hosted a roundtable discussion on Electronic Epidemiology. The roundtable was facilitated and captured by Booz Allan Hamilton, a member of the Center.

Thirty health informatics leaders from government, the private sector, and policy organizations assembled to discuss electronic epidemiology - envisioned as the routine, evidence-driven, and aggressive leveraging of large health record datasets for pre-clinical and clinical research, outcome analysis, quality and safety management, and public health. Participants focused on opportunities to accelerate the realization of electronic epidemiology. They identified which of these opportunities provide the greatest near-term opportunities.

The Center believes electronic epidemiology must be at the core of such a 21st Century Intelligent Health System. This practice is already delivering significant value across our health system, and much more ambitious applications are now in various stages of conception, design, and deployment.

The Center for Health Transformation and Booz Allen Hamilton will be releasing a summary of finding from this roundtable in early October, 2007.
